The Highly Efficient And Reliable smart Transformer (HEART)

Prof. Johann W. Kolar

Johann W. Kolar, IEEE Fellow. Since 2001, he has been Professor and Head of the Power Electronic Systems Laboratory, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. He has proposed numerous novel converter topologies and modulation/control concepts, e.g., the VIENNA Rectifier, the Swiss Rectifier, and the three-phase ac–ac sparse matrix converter. He has published more than 450 scientific papers in international journals and conference proceedings and has filed more than 85 patents. His current research interests include ac–ac and ac–dc converter topologies with low effects on the mains, and solid-state transformers for smart microgrid systems.
